For Customers

This guide explains how customers use Pickolo to browse menus, place orders, and pay at your restaurant.

Scan QR to Order

Customers start by scanning a QR code on their table using their phone camera. No app download or account creation is required — the QR code opens your menu directly in the browser.

  1. Point the phone camera at the table QR code
  2. Tap the link that appears — the menu opens in the browser
  3. The customer is automatically associated with the correct table

Tip: Include a small instruction card next to the QR code that says "Scan to order" for customers unfamiliar with QR codes.

Browse Menu

After scanning, the customer sees your menu organized into tabs. If the AI assistant is enabled and the customer is logged in, the tabs are AI Chat, Menu, My Order. Otherwise, they see Menu and My Order.

  • Category chips at the top let customers jump to specific sections
  • Tapping a product shows full details including allergens and toppings
  • The AI Chat tab lets customers ask questions about the menu or get recommendations

Note: The menu displays in the customer's preferred language if translations are available.

Place Order

From the My Order tab, customers review their selected items and submit.

  1. Review items and adjust quantities
  2. Select order type — Dine In, Pickup, or Delivery
  3. Add any special notes or dietary instructions
  4. Tap Order (or Pay and Order if paying by card at checkout)

Tip: Customers can continue browsing and add more items even after placing an order. Additional items are added to the same table's tab.

Payment

Customers can pay directly from their phone using card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay. The payment screen shows the order total and tip options (0%, 10%, 15%, 20%). Payment is processed securely through Stripe.

Note: Digital payment is optional. Customers can also pay cash to the waiter.

Order Tracking

After placing an order, customers can track its progress in real time:

  • New Order — The order has been submitted
  • In Progress — Staff has acknowledged and is preparing the order
  • Delivered — The order has been brought to the table

Reservations

Customers can make table reservations directly through the menu page. They select a date, time, and party size, then submit the request. The restaurant confirms or declines, and both sides can communicate through an in-app chat thread.

Order History

Customers can view their past orders from the history section. Each entry shows the date, table, items, and total amount. Tap any order to view its full details.
